Compliance-Focused Environmental Management System

A compliance-focused  Environmental Management System (CFEMS) is an on-going process to determine activities and conditions which impact the environment and how those impacts can be eliminated or reduced to the greatest extent possible.  MPA is in the process of developing a CFEMS.  A CFEMS is based on a “Plan-Do-Check-Act” continuous improvement cycle of activity.

MPA chose to develop a CFEMS for three main reasons.

  • MPA is committed to pollution prevention and compliance with environmental regulation.  Through the CFEMS process, MPA can identify potential sources of pollution and determine ways in which those sources can be managed to prevent pollution

  • Text Box: The Compliance-focused Environmental Management System is the basis for many existing and up-coming port-wide environmental initiatives.
A CFEMS provides MPA with a framework to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.

  • An EMS allows for cycles of continual improvement.  This opportunity of continual improvement aligns with MPA’s commitment to reap successive and lasting accomplishments toward environmental protection port-wide.
