
Mr. Alvin J. Nichols

Alvin Nichols is Chief of Staff for the
Community Investments Group of Fannie Mae’s Housing and Community
Development Division. Community Investments provides equity in the
acquisition, development and construction of affordable For Rent and For
Sale housing. Alvin joined Fannie Mae in 1994, as Director of the
Washington, DC Partnership Office (DCPO). As Director of the
Partnership Office, Mr. Nichols was responsible for providing leadership
in the planning and execution of Fannie Mae's focused housing and
community development efforts in Washington, DC and the surrounding
metropolitan area. From 1998 to 2001, Alvin was Director of
Neighborhood Partners Initiatives with the Fannie Mae DCPO, and led the
corporation's Howard University LeDroit Park Initiative, a partnership
with Howard University, aimed at leveraging the sustainable,
comprehensive revitalization of this 150-block community.
Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Mr.
Nichols served as Prince George’s County Deputy Chief Administrative
Officer for Business Development under then-County Executive Parris
Glendening. Alvin was responsible for management of the County's
agencies most directly impacting business development, including Public
Works and Transportation, and served as the Executive’s liaison to the
Prince George’s County Planning Board. Alvin was also responsible for
initiating and coordinating business development, retention and
expansion policy, and served as the County Executive's principal liaison
to the business community. During his tenure with Prince George's
County, Alvin launched the County's urban reinvestment strategy and
created and chaired a Bankers' Task Force, which provided advice and
consultation to the County Executive, and counted among its
accomplishments the development and implementation of a small business
revitalization loan fund.
Mr. Nichols has also served as Vice
President for Management Operations at Horning Brothers, a Washington DC
based real estate development and management firm specializing in urban
housing and commercial development; City Administrator of Takoma Park,
Maryland, where he was responsible for initiating and leading that
city's very successful urban redevelopment program; and Executive Vice
President of the DC Housing Industry Corporation, a nonprofit housing
development corporation, sponsored by Washington DC financial
institutions, builders and Realtors, which developed housing for low-
and moderate-income families.
Alvin is a graduate of
Leadership Washington and is active in many community organizations. He
has served on the boards of Victory Housing, Inc., a non-profit housing
developer, the Levine School of Music, the Higher Achievement Program,
and the Advisory Board of the Summer Bridge extended learning program
for urban youth.
Mr. Nichols holds a Master’s Degree in
Public Administration from The American University and a B.A. in Urban
and Environmental Studies from Case Western Reserve University.
