Maryland Port Commission Overview

Membership on the Maryland Port Commission is more than a ceremonial appointment. This seven-member panel oversees the Maryland Port Administration, devising the flexible procedures — particularly for personnel and procurement — that help the Maryland’s Port of Baltimore keep its competitive edge.

Six members are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Maryland Senate, to serve three-year terms on the Port Commission.  The current members are:
Mr. William Dockser, Mr. Donald C. Fry, Mr. Alvin J. Nichols, Ms. Peta N. Richkus,
Mr. Theodore (Ted) Venetoulis and Mr. Charles H. White Jr.

Port Commissioners are also responsible for conducting studies and surveys and considering implementation of their results; establishing Foreign Trade Zones; acquiring Port facilities and overseeing improvements to them; and managing the dredging of shipping channels.

The Maryland Secretary of Transportation chairs the Port Commission, which meets monthly at MPA headquarters at the World Trade Center. To learn more about the Port Commissioners, click on their names.
